Delivery Manager Amardeep discusses the work/life balance in our Tech teams
"My work/life balance is brilliant. You’ll always find me at the pub on a Friday!"
Name: Amardeep Sirha
Job title: Delivery Manager/Support Manager
What area of Sky do you work in? Digital Agency
What’s your career journey been like up until now? My career here started as a Business Analyst in one of the squads in Digital Agency. I really enjoyed that role and found myself picking up Scrum Master Duties in the absence of one. This led me into the role of Scrum Master and after a reshuffle of team, into Delivery Manager/Support Manager.
What does a typical day working here look like for you? My days vary from ensuring our roadmap is up to date and making sure there is enough resource to working with Scrum Masters on coaching and financial forecasts. Digital Agency operates a little differently to other ½ product teams, with over 90 sites and applications to look after support, which is a big part of my role. I triage the Spark requests coming in and ensure support is managed in the most effective way possible, with maximum communication with stakeholders.
If you’ve been here over one year, how have you made a difference in your role? I’ve had a few different roles but some of the key differences I’ve made are:
- Refining the support process within Digital Agency
- Refining the work request process of when work comes into the tribe
- Working on building the correct metrics for the tribe
What’s been your proudest moment since working here? Being part of the Elections Data Feed Team and having the opportunity to be part of the overnight team.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about your job? How varied my day is.
Describe your work/life balance? Brilliant…you’ll always find me at the pub on a Friday!
What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career? Don’t be afraid to ask or apply for a job – the worst they can say is no and you will always learn from that experience. Always be open minded about different roles – breadth of experience is important.
An interesting fact/something no one else knows about you? I really like Pizza….Sometimes I lie about when I’ve had it….that is when you know it’s an addiction.
